The City of Dallas announced the 2010 "Loving My Community (LMC) Neighborhood Improvement Grant" recipients, and East Dallas resident groups were big winners. The LMC program provides financial assistance for resident groups to create community operated projects/programs to address specific neighborhood needs and improve quality of life.  Here are the winning projects in East Dallas:

Stonewall Gardens – Outdoor Lab and Community Center: Sustaining and further developing the long-standing garden program at Stonewall Jackson Elementary through a new community-supported organization that involves the neighborhood through a community garden outreach program.
LMC Grant Amount: $10,000
Total Project Cost: $79,380

Friends of Buckner Park Ground Breaking and Beautification Project: The Peak’s Addition, Munger Place, Swiss Avenue and Junius Heights neighborhoods team up to establish an environmentally friendly and welcoming entrance to the park and future loop trail.
LMC Grant Amount: $9,286
Total Project Cost: $16,066

Santa Fe Trail Clean-up and Graffiti Abatement Kick-Off Event: Kick-off event for a quarterly clean-up and graffiti abatement program along the Santa Fe Trail in East Dallas.
LMC Grant Amount: $5,529
Total Project Cost: $8,249

Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area (LOLA) Improvements Project: Install an outdoor amphitheater classroom, remove safety hazards on existing trail and steps and implement erosion abatement features to improve the quality of the LOLA and facilitate the quality of environmental education opportunities.
LMC Grant Amount: $10,000
Total Project Cost: $20,520

Going to the Bank: Eastwood Erosion Control Project: Repair erosion in a segment of the Deep Tributary of Dixon Branch Creek flowing through a Park and Recreation Department owned greenbelt within the Eastwood HOA boundaries.
LMC Grant Amount: $10,000
Total Project Cost: $18,280
