ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY FESTIVITIES

On Saturday, July 3rd, the annual Lakewood 4th of July parade kicked-off a weekend of festivies.  As usual, throngs of people lined the streets of Lakewood in anticipation of the event.  Even threats of rain couldn't dous the spirits of the people assembled along the route.

Lots of old favorites were on hand - Dallas's finest provided motorcycle and car escorts, and the local fire station lead the parade with their firetruck.  People show off cars that ran the gamit from old Model Ts, caddies, and Thunderbirds, to a modern red Ferrare,  toy jeeps and even a smoke-belching miniature tank.

Old fashioned bicycles, unicyles, and even a skating cow twined through a parade column that boasted the Lady Gagas, Elvis & Marilyn, dancing chickens, and long-time favorite, Captain America.  People of every age clamoured for goodies tossed from the floats, and there was plenty for everyone.

Although there were a few sprinkles of rain, the weather cooperated fully, and it was cooler than most can recall for a  4th of July in Dallas, Texas.  There was only a brief blast of rain late in the afternoon, which made for some happy revelers at block parties throughout the day and into the evening.

Lakewood Country Club presented their traditional fireworks show on July 4th, which was appreciated by their members and by local residents who congregated on lawns, driveways and porches. The fireworks were the perfect close to the neighborhood celebration of our nation's independence.
